Poem Recitation and Speech Competition at VSL Glen Waverley

The Glen Waverley VSL Campus came alive with vibrant celebrations of Indian Independence, highlighted by spirited poem recitations and an engaging speech competition organised by the Kannada Language Team. The team expressed heartfelt gratitude to the VSL and to the Glen Waverley staff, led by Kevin Ryan, for their support in making the event possible.

The theme for the speech competition was “Where We Belong”. Students shared personal stories, including their family histories, migration journeys to Australia, and experiences of being born and raised in places such as New Zealand.

Parents, guests, and judges attended the event, applauding the confidence and creativity of the young participants.

Area Manager Kevin Ryan and Supervisor Ed Setto commended the dedication of teachers and team members whose efforts made the day so memorable. They also highlighted how moving it was to hear students fluently sing the national anthems of both countries – a reflection of pride in heritage and belonging. The community deeply values these opportunities to stay connected to their roots while embracing life abroad.

The occasion was made even more festive with tricolour-themed sweets and fresh fruits, adding a colourful touch to the celebrations.

Every child was recognised for their enthusiasm and participation, receiving medals for their performances as well as plants and fruits as special mementos, symbolising growth and nurturing.

The day was a true reflection of community spirit, culture, and celebration at VSL Glen Waverley.
