Indonesian Independence Day Celebrations at VSL Glen Waverley

On Saturday 16 August the Indonesian faculty at VSL Glen Waverley celebrated Indonesian Independence Day.

This year marks 80 years of Indonesia’s Independence. Students in Years 7-9 joined in a variety of traditional games such as the Krupuk Eating Competition, Congklak and Balap Kelereng (Marble and Spoon Race). We also sang the national anthem together and watched the official flag raising ceremony clip from 2024 via the internet.

We concluded the session with the Year 10 classes joining to enjoy a traditional Indonesian lunch together.

Sessions like this allow students to explore elements of culture and national identity alongside language. We look forward to this special event each year.

Indonesia! Merdeka!
