About the Victorian School of Languages (VSL)

The Victorian School of Languages (VSL) is a government school dedicated to providing language programs for students in Foundation to 12 who cannot access these languages in their mainstream schools. Our comprehensive language program is delivered through face-to-face instruction at our Centres across the state and via Distance Education.

As Australia’s largest language provider, the VSL serves over 19,000 students across Victoria. We employ more than 1,000 staff, including sessional teachers at our Centres and full-time teaching and administrative staff in our Distance Education Section and Head Office. Our Distance Education and Head Office are located at Thornbury. For details on VSL Centre locations, please visit the Contact Us section of this site.

Employment Opportunities

Please note that all employees must be eligible to work in Australia. In Victoria, it is a legal requirement for all support staff to hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC). Teachers must have current Teacher Registration or, with the VSL’s support, apply for a Permission to Teach through the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).

If you are interested in working with us but do not see a current vacancy or if you have general employment inquiries, please contact us at staffing@vsl.vic.edu.au.
