Brentwood Sinhala Students Celebrate Sri Lankan New Year

On 16 May, the Victorian School of Languages (VSL) Brentwood Sinhala faculty and students proudly celebrated the Sri Lankan New Year Festival.

Students, dressed in traditional Sri Lankan attire, showcased their talents through folk songs, cultural dances and speeches, celebrating the richness of the Sinhala language and culture with the wider Sri Lankan community. Their enthusiasm, confidence and pride in their heritage were evident throughout the performances.

Parents and students also joined in a range of traditional New Year games, creating a vibrant and inclusive community celebration. We were delighted by the strong attendance and the enthusiastic participation of everyone involved. The support of our parent community, from helping with decorations and event setup to encouraging student participation, played an important role in the day’s success.

We extend our sincere thanks to Area Manager Mr Kevin Ryan, Chief Supervisor Mr Venkata Kalva, and all staff members for their support in making this year’s Sri Lankan New Year Festival such a memorable occasion.
